This image was inspired by a couple bible verses (Ephesians 3:17; John 12:24). I have always been intrigued particularly by John 12:23-25 where Jesus predicts his death saying,”The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” As you can see the first half of this verse is symbolized in the painting quite easily. Yet the last half is more bold and blunt. Without understanding this saying in context and any desire in the things of God this verse can be offensive and radical to most people. It has for me.
